50 Megs review

Basically, 50 megs is a website that allows you to have a website hosted by them. The site will give you a certain amount of things for free, at no cost and you can run a beautiful website.

The downside to it is that you can only get 12 MB of space for the entire website. Now when I visit a site that wants to host my website, I expect all charges to be paid for and by the company.

Here are the details : For free, you get 12MB of personal web space, a mere 256K per file upload which is small because you may want to include a .wav file that is around 500k and can’t unless you dish out some money. As well the bandwith is only 50MB for visitors to enter.

Now if the site is called, you’d think that you would get 50 megs for free. I wanted to sign up but unregistered after learning about this.

For 50 Megs, you have to pay $5.95 and you will be allowed file uploads of 5MB’s at a time. Included with the offer are incentives such as free counters, guestbooks, stats, email forwarding … basically the works but not including a search submission.

There are other packages that go up to 500 megs but you simply have to pay up to $14.95 for the company to pay for your usage. I think if you were going to tell consumers that you are offering 50 megs, but only gave customers 12 megs for free, you might as well just rename the site or had done it in the beginning, calling it

Along with everything, you get one of the most undesirable web domains. I personally would never want to have a webpage with a domain with numbers. It’s so unprofessional .. even for a Britney Spears fun site.

I have about 40 sites, forums, blogs etc. One of the problems I have with 50 megs free web page (I/m in the Internet from 1997) is that there is a login problem with the browser Pale Moon

I have had 50megs host my sites for nearly 7 years, They are now one of the cheapest places to host your site. But don’t expect much. Customer service line is a call center, and the phone operators are not website savvy. They will answer your questions based on the responses they get from their computer system, or “ask their supervisor” on the more difficult ones. That being said, they have always been able to solve problems for me, but it often takes a bit of time. Yes, the interface is outdated, & the “site builder” program is buggy. If you edit your own HTML & use FTP you avoid these issues. I picked 50megs because it is cheap. It does not have all the extra features that many other hoster have, but it works for me, because I don’t have to pay for things I won’t use any way. If you are savvy, and do your own editing, 50megs is a great host.

I have had nothting but problems with the site builder function on 50megs…it crashes, you loose everything and then you have to restore all your pages from file manager…BUT file manager will only restore from a week previously [this function is rubbish too has never allowed me to restore from 24 hours ago either]…
OR site builder simply stops allowing you to edit / delete / ACCESS any of your web pages…reporting only a ‘server error’…
So you then try their ’50megs priority customer support’ and get no where – just left paying for a website you cant access, use or edit…

Worst support ever. I was designing my customer site and this place you can call them 24/7 but you get a person from a call center that will get someone to get back to you in 1-2 days. They lied about setting the name servers and sent me an email saying they changed them but when I called the call center they said they didn’t. The person got all upset because I called her out and hung up on me.

The control panel they use isn’t a live control panel so the customer can’t do edits to their info or manage their domain name.. They are over priced and put limits on a lot of things.

Stay far away from them, Their customers are people that don’t know any better. I save their customer a 130.00 and this is with an extra .ca domain name that cost more, I did the job in less than 5 minutes that took them over a week to do when I got the domain transfer.

I like the idea of a website wanting to host your site, but the fees aren’t worth it for a personal website. Even if you are a company, it would seem unprofessional to have a domain of Either way, if they remove the charges I will join them for sure. If not, then I guess they have lost a potential customers. Geez, why not just get money from advertisers on your site, its easier!
